3 MEN CONVICTED OF DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES FINED TT$55,500

Three men who pleaded guilty to drug possession and trafficking charges were fined $55,500 by a Sangre Grande Magistrate.

In the latest sentence handed yesterday by Senior Magistrate Cheron Raphael, NIGEL GEORGE, 35, of Graham Trace Extension, Foster Road, was fined $2,500 on a possession of cocaine trafficking charge or in default face three months’ hard labour.

GEORGE was also fined $7,500 or face nine months’ hard labour on a cannabis possession charge. He was allowed six months to pay the fines.

He was charged on Tuesday by PC Smith of the Eastern Division Task Force (EDTF) with Possession of 13 Grammes of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of 247 Grammes of Cannabis after being arrested by EDTF and Canine Branch personnel who executed a search warrant at his home.

There, the law enforcement officers found and seized the narcotics.


Meanwhile, last Thursday, KEVIN DANIEL, aka ‘TAT,’ 35, and DAVID LOVELACE, 30, both of Buttercup Avenue, North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, who also pleaded guilty to drug possession and trafficking charges were fined $40,000 and $5,500, respectively, by Senior Magistrate Raphael.


DANIEL, who was charged with Possession of 2.23 Kilogrammes of Cannabis for the Purpose of Trafficking and LOVELACE, who was charged with Possession of 222 Grammes of Cannabis, were both given six months to pay the fines.


In default, DANIEL faces serving three years’ hard labour while LOVELACE would face 12 months’ hard labour.


The duo was arrested and charged on January 11th by PC Mohammed of the Eastern Division Task Force (EDTF) who was a part of an operation that targeted priority offenders in the Sangre Grande area.


During the exercises, EDTF police officers and Canine Branch personnel, executed search warrants at the suspects’ homes where they found the narcotics.

The men were subsequently detained and charged following further investigations.
