One man was held and two guns and a quantity of ammunition were seized by police officers following crime suppression exercises yesterday in the North-Eastern (NED) and Port-of-Spain Divisions (PoSD).

In the first operation executed, police officers attached to the NED Gang and Intelligence Unit (NEDGIU) arrested a 27-year-old man from the Romain Lands, Morvant area and seized a Browning PQ Semi-Automatic Pistol fitted with a magazine containing 11 rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.

At the time, NEDGIU officers were immediately responding to a report of a group of armed men along a roadway in the Romain Lands, Morvant area.

The suspect is facing possession of a firearm and ammunition charges.

Meanwhile, officers of the NED Task Force searched a bridge in the vicinity of Ramkissoon Trace, San Juan, where they allegedly found a black and chrome Glock 17 Pistol fitted with a magazine and four rounds of nine millimetre ammunition.

Investigations into this find are ongoing.

Over in the PoSD, while executing an Operation Safe City exercise,

a party of officers proceeded to the Sea Lots area, where, upon checking a track that leads to the premises of a priority offender, they seized 29 rounds of 5.56 millimetre ammunition hidden within a concrete wall.
