38-year-old Stacey Mohammed a CEPEP employee of St. Margaret's Old Road, St. Margaret's was jointly charged with 40-year-old Rekayi Isaac, a labourer employed with the Tunapuna Regional Corporation of Bayshore Road, Marabella
On Friday 6th January 2023 both accused were arrested and subsequently charged on Monday 9th January 2023 with 134 counts of obtaining money by menace.
They appeared before the San Fernando Senior Magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh on Wednesday 11th January 2023, and were each placed on $400,000 bail to cover all charges.
They were ordered to surrender their passports and to refrain from communicating with the alleged victim.
The accused were also ordered to report Monday, Thursday, and Saturday between 6 am-6 pm at the St Margaret’s and Marabella Police Stations, respectively.
The charges were laid by PC Nanan of the Marabella Criminal Investigations Department.
According to a police report, sometime in August 2021, the victim borrowed $3500.00 from Isaac, with an agreement to repay the money in 6 weeks with an interest of $3500.00.
On Wednesday 1st September 2021, Isaac called the victim and told the victim that he borrowed the money, which he had previously loaned to him, from a man named Daniel and that he will have to deal with Daniel's wife Melissa.
Stacey, sometime later, pretended to be Melissa and she called the victim and told him he will have to make payments to her and she will be giving directives on how to make the payments.
The victim, during the period of 2nd September 2021 -18th September 2021, went to Cippy Street Gasparillo and placed the money in a mailbox of Stacey on different occasions totaling $7500.00.
On the 18th September 2021, the victim communicated with accused Stacey who again pretended to be Melissa and he told her that he had paid her all the money that he had borrowed from Isaac.
She told him that is not the way they do business and she explained to the victim that he did not make the payment in one payment and he was still owing interest.
The victim became annoyed and he again communicated with Isaac who told him that he will have to continue making payments to Stacey and she will send him the locations to make the payments and if he don’t, Daniel will send people to kill him.
At this stage the victim became afraid and felt threatened and told Isaac that he didn’t borrow any money from Daniel, he borrowed from him. Isaac told the victim that is not the way they do business and he again began to feel threatened.
During the period 23rd September 2021 to December 2022, both accused continued to demand money from the victim by menace and on every Thursday and Saturday commencing from the 23rd Sept 2022 until December 2022, they instructed the victim to hand over money at separate locations in the Gasparillo, Marabella and St Margaret’s district totaling the sum of $192,000.00.
On Wednesday 4th January 2023 the victim made a report to the Marabella police which resulted in Isaac and Stacey being arrested and charged.
